The North Northwest Beginnings show catalogue is available to purchase.

The catalogue is 210mm x 210mm and consists of 24 pages. Each catalogue is signed and dated with the year.

The technical specification was important on this job, as we wanted the finest print quality to echo that of the original work.

The cover is 380 Micron Horizon Pulpboard with embossed artists seal, with interior pages on 200gsm Satimat.

The book was printed using a Sublima hybrid non-uniform dot. The screen resolution is 280 lpi which boasts a higher definition than the 175lpi, normally used by printers.

Images were sampled at 360dpi at the final printed sized to maximise the use of this higher quality printing technique.

You can preview and purchase the catalogue here

It was my good friend Jack Lowe who introduced me to Instagram early last year. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. In fact, it soon became clear that the real surprise was actually how much I was enjoying using my iPhone to take pictures.

It’d never really occurred to me before to use a phone camera, having always considered my ‘professional’ camera equipment to be the only choice. I was finding myself photographing simple scenes, things that I would have ordinarily passed by, making simple observations. It became liberating.

The spontaneous and portable nature of the iPhone, plus the availability of some neat image processing apps, makes it a powerful and fun tool, capable of some surprisingly good results.

For those that like to know, I pass all my iPhone pictures through an app called Snapseed before uploading.

With regards to Instagram.. I closed my account on January 18th, along with a lot of other people, after their terms of service were changed and became unacceptable, certainly for any professional photographer wishing to protect their images from potential unauthorised usage, and themselves from any legal comeback.

So now I’m giving Tumblr a try, and so far I’m liking what I see. For me it’s visually a far more pleasing experience than Instagram, and the sharing and re-blogging functionality far more powerful. I particularly like the iPhone app. For anyone interested you can find me here.

Recently I showed my London agent a small selection of my iPhone pictures and we decided it’d be a nice idea to put together some portfolio sheets.

Here they are..

Just back from a productive week of shooting personal work in the Glen Orchy and Glen Coe area of the Scottish Highlands. The weather delivered everything that I could have hoped for, Hoar frost, Ice and a timely dump of snow.

Watch this space for the finished imagery (you can subscribe to the blog for update alerts)

In the meantime here’s a ‘behind the scenes’ shot of just one of the set-ups, the River Etive, with what is quite possibly the most photographed mountain in Scotland rising up behind, Buachaille Etive Mòr.

For those who like to know, the camera you see is an ALPA 12 STC with Rodenstock/ALPA HR Alpagon 4.0/40 mm SB17, tilt/swing adapter 0°- 5°, 17 mm and PhaseOne IQ180 MFDB.

The picture above was made on an iPhone, with a quick pass through Snapseed.

And here’s ALPA’s 2012 Christmas eCard..
